It has been 3+ months of consistency and counting! Here’s a quick update:
- No longer hard to keep momentum. Keeping to a daily workout got easier in February. In March, the habit was fully formed and it felt like a daily part of life. The first day of each month was designated a rest day,
- Glad to be largely well throughout. I did get a minor bout of flu in February but that did not stop me. Had an easier jog or a lighter spin.
- Performance improved. While I wasn’t targeting anything significant, I have experienced getting closer to my peak (which was around 5 years ago). Running pace is at is best with low 5 mins becoming pretty straightforward. Cycling FTP is just 6% shy of my peak; an improvement from 75% to 94% of peak in just 3 months. VO2max for both running and cycling are back to peak levels.
- Volume is a problem but not one I can fix. Not easy to put together hour long or longer sessions due to family and work commitments. Maybe this will improve as the kids get older.
- Break in mid April. I will be taking a break in mid-April for a family vacation. Hoping to continue the momentum when I am back!
